People often ask me, "What's the best kind of exercise?" My short answer is: the one you enjoy doing. Exercise done out of discipline rather than joy sets the stage for you to ignore your body, push through discomfort, past pain, and into injury.
Exercise done out of duty rather than desire drains our limited reserves of willpower, leaving less mental stamina for the rest of life.
Exercise without pleasure is a miserably high price to pay for having a moderately healthy body.
So, what makes for good exercise? That depends on your body and your preferences.
I recommend something that you find fun or meditative. Something that gives you a sense of power or a sense of peace. Anything that you look forward to that gets you moving.
If you think that nothing active is fun, try something new. There is no way that you have tried every type of exercise out there. Keep trying new activities until you find one (or several) that make you feel like a happy kid at recess.
